Giải được tổ chức tại Mumbai, Ấn Độ từ ngày 17 đến 28/4 với sự tham dự của 137 VĐV, trong đó có 23 Đại kiện tướng. Nguyễn Anh Dũng của Việt Nam đã xuất sắc giành chức vô địch.
 
The Venus Chess Academy, organizers of the Commonwealth Chess Championship under the auspices of the Maharashtra Chess Association and the All India Chess Federation and sponsored by the Union Bank of India and ONGC, had also incorporated the International Open Chess Tournament with the event. International Grand Master Nguyen Anh Dung of Vietnam became champion after ten games with seven wins and three draws. Nguyen Anh Dung won an important win over Asian defending champion Sasikiran Krishman of India in the ninth game while his follower - international grand master Kasimdzhanov Rustom - drew with international grand master Vladimirov Evgeny. The Uzbekistan Grandmaster Rustom Kasimdzhanov was placed second and the Kazak Grandmaster Vladimirov Evgeny had to settle with the third place. From the Women’s category in the International Open Chess Championship Woman Fide Master D.Harika won the title and Anupama Gokhale and Wang Yu from China rested with the second and third placing respectively.
