On Sunday Morning, June 25th 2017, at Ho Guom Cultural Information Center (No. 2 Le Thai To Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi), Ho Guom Chess Club cooperated with Hoan Kiem District People's Committee and The Vietnamese Chess Federation organized The 15th Ho Guom Chess Arena (with topic: International friendly chess match).
Those who attending the 15th Ho Guom Chess Arena were: Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu - General Secretary of the Vietnamese Chess Federation; Mr. Luu Duc Hai - Member of Executive Committee of The Vietnamese Chess Federation, President of Ho Guom Chess Club; Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung - Representative of Ho Guom Culture Information Center in Hoan Kiem District; General Referee of Chess Arena: Mr. Nguyen Tran Quang Minh; Referee of hanging chessboard: Mr. Pham Tam Phuoc; Commentator: Mr. Phan Van Han; International chess players; members of Ho Guom Chess Club; chess lovers and tourists on Ho Guom walking street area. The 15th Ho Guom Chess Arena was two international friendly chess matches (including one chess player played blind chess, it means playing chess without looking at chessboard, just imaged the match and read the move). The first match between player Gaticales Martin (Philippines, Elo 1948) met player Ho Xuan Mai (Ho Guom Chess Club, Elo 1816; Ms. Ho Xuan Mai has just been ranked 99 in TOP 100 of Vietnam Chess by FIDE in June 2017). The second match between the International Chess Master Nguyen Van Hai (played blind chess) meets U13 Malaysian Kah Hoe (played in chessboard), the blind chess match was commantated directly on the large hanging chessboard to show to all audience in Ho Guom walking street. In 15 times of organizing Chess Arena, this is the first time there was an Arena for Blind Chess.
In the first match, according to the rules of the match, two players played a match and had 60 minutes to complete the match. After nearly two hours of competition, Ho Xuan Mai, held white troop and moved before, lost to Gaticales Martin.
In the second match of blind chess, according to the rules of the match, two players played two games (one moved before, one moved after), if the score was tie, a flash match would be played to determine the result. International Master Nguyen Van Hai (Elo 2300) played blind chess, Malaysian Chess player Kah Hoe (Elo 1598) was allowed to look at the chessboard and each side had 45 minutes to complete each match. After the draw, in the first match, International Master Nguyen Van Hai was held the white troop and moved before, Malaysian player Kah Hoe held the black troop and moved after. After more than three hours of continuous and fierce competition, the chess match with two games ended with the result that International Master Nguyen Van Hai won all two games and won at the 15th Ho Guom Chess Arena.
On Sunday, July 2nd, 2017 (from 9a.m -12a.m), the 16th Ho Guom Chess Arena will be International Chess between Kah Hoe (U13 Malaysia Champion in 2017) meets players of Ho Guom Chess Club, to serve the audience, tourists and many chess lover in Ho Guom walking street.
